Bert E. Rogers, age 79 of West Somerset, KY departed this life on Monday, February 21, 2011 at his home.

He was born on December 29, 1931 in Nancy, KY, the son of the late John Marion and Beulah Redmon Rogers. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War and farmer. He was a graduate of the Nancy High School where he was the president of the Senior Class, the past president and director of Pulaski County Farm Bureau, and past president of the Burley Advisory Council. Mr. Rogers was a member, Sunday School teacher, and song leader at the Chesterview Baptist Church in Nancy, KY.

Mr. Rogers is survived by two sons, Greg (and Christine) Rogers of Moneta, VA and Doug Rogers of Somerset, KY; two daughters, Joan (and Bob) Davis of Somerset, KY and Amy (and Cody) Bill of Ringgold, LA; ten grandchildren, Dustin, Derek, Keith, and Alaina Rogers, Chad and Wade Davis, April Vernon, Reagan, Ryleigh, and Grady Bill, and Jessica Cundiff; eight great grandchildren; a brother, John (and Debbie) Rogers of Somerset, KY; numerous nieces and nephews; a son-in-law, Dave Cundiff of Indianapolis, IN; and a special friend, Lola Hargis of Nancy, KY.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Shirley Joan Stringer Rogers, whom he married on November 24, 1953; and a daughter, Judy Cundiff.

Visitation for Mr. Rogers will be on Thursday, February 24th at 5:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, February 25th at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Clark and Bro. Norman Harper officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Bertie Cundiff Lester, age 88, of Somerset, formerly of the Bronston community, departed this life on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Sunrise Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Somerset, Kentucky on November 1, 1919 to the late Edward S. and Millie K. Bray Cundiff. She retired from the Palm Beach Company as a supervisor and seamstress. She also worked for Mill Outlet Fabrics. She was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Lester was fond of sewing, crocheting, crossword and picture puzzles but a good Christian novel was her greatest pleasure. She had grown close to God in the last few years and left this world surrounded by His peace and grace.

Surviving her is a son, James E. “Jim” (and Susan) Weddle of Somerset; a daughter, Joyce W. (and Bill) Bailey of W. Columbia, SC; two brothers, Tom E. (and Lucille) Cundiff of Somerset and Edward S. (and Ruby) Cundiff Jr. of Akron, OH; four grandchildren, Christopher S. Bailey, Kerry Lee (and Todd) Everett, Joy (and Lyndon) Turpin, and Jami (and J.C.) Cain; eight great grandchildren, Zack Turpin, Lucas Turpin, Morgan Roberts, Carly Cain, C.J. Bailey, Meredith Bailey, Matthew Bailey, and Lella Lee Everett; and several nieces and nephews, along with special Neighborhood Friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold G. Lester, whom she married on June 7, 1954 in Rossville, GA; a brother, Robert “Rob” Cundiff; and three sisters, May Cundiff Holsomback, Allene C. Cundiff, Elizabeth Cundiff Lester.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. J.S. New and Bro. David Muse officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 after 6:00 pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Clinton Kennedy Cundiff, 85, Somerset businessman, developer, and agriculturist passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at his home in Somerset, Kentucky after a brief illness.

Mr. Cundiff, born January 11, 1918 in Faubush, KY, was the son of the late Stinson and Henrietta Weddle Cundiff. He was a life long resident of Somerset and a member of the First Baptist Church. Known as C.K. to his family and friends, he graduated from Somerset High School in 1938 and Berea College in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. After graduation, Mr. Cundiff had a distinguished career in Agriculture including an offer by President Harry S. Truman to be United States Secretary of Agriculture. In 1949, he founded Cundiff Seed Company. From 1950 through the 1970’s Cundiff Seed became the world’s largest grower and shipper of Kentucky 31 Fescue seed. Through Mr. Cundiff’s direct efforts, KY 31 became one of the foremost strains of grass seed in the country and is the predecessor to the modern lawn grass seeds so popular today. Mr. Cundiff patented and copyrighted Kentucky 41 Fescue Seed and was affectionately known by many of his farmer partner and friends and “Fescue”.

As a businessman and developer, Mr. Cundiff was the President/CEO Wholesale Plumbers and Electric Supply Inc., and, along with numerous properties, he developed two major business centers in Somerset; Gateway Centre and Cundiff Square Center LTD. Known to many as Town Springs Square, Cundiff Square is a 15 acre downtown business center and apartment complex containing the Historical Town Springs where the city of Somerset began in 1801 and is on the Kentucky Historical Register and the Kentucky Heritage Commission. Mr. Cundiff was widely known for his knowledge of Somerset and Pulaski County. He spent over 50 years dedicated to preserving some of the history of Somerset and the historical spring.

Mr. Cundiff is survived by his wife Phyllis Lawrence Cundiff: two sons, Richard K. Cundiff of Somerset, Donald L. Cundiff of Lexington, KY, and a stepdaughter Tamara L. Harper Avera of Somerset; two grandsons, Clarence K. Cundiff of Lexington, KY, Shandon B. Cundiff of Lexington, KY and a step grandson Tylen Avera; a great grandson Sheldon Douglas Cundiff; a sister, Mildred Tarter of Dayton, OH and a brother, Winfred Cundiff of Nancy, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 60 years Irene Johnson Cundiff, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

The funeral services will be at 1pm Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Somerset. Friends may call after 5pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, P.O. Box 651, Somerset, KY 42502

Elizabeth Ellen Cundiff Shadoan, age 88 of Somerset, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born on July 29, 1920, the daughter of the late Brinkley and Ella Hudson Cundiff. She was a cashier, retiring after 25 years from John C. Grubb Grocery Company in Salem, Indiana. Mrs. Shadoan loved gardening, homemaking, canning, and quilting. She was a member of the Campground Baptist Church for over 25 years.

Mrs. Shadoan is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Shadoan Collins of Somerset; two grandchildren, Patricia (and Dave) Collins Scott of Somerset and Danny (and Karen) Collins of Helenwood, TN; a great grandchild, Shelby Collins of Somerset; two nephews, Steve Cundiff of Somerset and James Rexroat of Orlando, FL; a niece, Donna Dalton of Decatur, GA; and sister-in-law, Mary Knight Cundiff of Somerset.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Brinkley and Ella Cundiff; her husband of 49 years, Roy Ernest Shadoan, whom she married on October 5, 1935 in Somerset; an infant daughter, Beverly June Shadoan; a brother, Howard Cundiff; two sisters, Christine Grider and Wilma Dalton; and a son-in-law, Raymond Lath Collins.

Visitation for Mrs. Shadoan will be Friday, March 6th after 6:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 11:00 am at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. James Floyd and Bro. Gerald Ashley officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Somerset, KY.

He was born February 18th, 1927 in Somerset, Kentucky, a son of the late Lindsey Cundiff and Maude McDowell Cundiff. He was a Merchant Marines Veteran, a graduate of Shopville High School, a construction superintendent for South Kentucky R.E.C.C., for 36 years and a member of Campground Baptist Church where he served as a deacon since 1964.

He is survived by his wife; Charlene Reedy Cundiff, Somerset, Kentucky: three sons; Daniel E. Cundiff, Somerset, Kentucky, Steven M. (and Jenny) Cundiff, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois and David E. (and Christine) Cundiff, Somerset, Kentucky: one brother; Charles M. “Buster” Cundiff, Somerset, Kentucky: one sister; Laura A. Sidwell, Albany, Kentucky: 7 grandchildren; Christa (and Chris) Burton, Marcus (And Letitia) Cundiff, Brandi (And Chris) Johnson, Amanda S. Cundiff, Craig M. Cundiff, Melinda K. Cundiff and Aaron E. Grace Mary Keeney Jones, 83, of Somerset, KY, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Somerset, KY, on April 4, 1924, daughter of the late Joseph Kirby Keeney and Bertha Perkins Cundiff Keeney. She married Rufus Jones on December 16, 1944, in Jamestown, KY, and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1975.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and their wives, Morris Bolin and (Nell) Keeney; Beryl Swain (and Delora “Dee”) Keeney; and Gilbert Murphy (and Emma Lyn “Jackie”) Keeney.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Anne Turpen (and her husband, Larry), and Brenda June Baker (and her husband, Roy) all of Nancy, KY; four grandchildren, Brett Rufus Turpen, (and wife Meghan); Amber Michelle Gambill (and husband Chris); all of Somerset, KY; Brian Lee Baker (and wife, Jennifer) of St. Louis, MO., and Jeremy Neil Baker, of Nancy, KY; five great-grandchildren, Luke Minton Turpen, Jaxon Christopher Gambill, Sawyer Blake Gambill, Bentley Grace Gambill, and Jack Thomas Baker and several nieces and nephews.

Grace was a devoted member of the West Somerset Baptist Church and the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She spent her life caring for her family, being a good neighbor, and helping others.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 29, 2008, at 1:00 pm at the chapel of the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, with Brother Larry Butte officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 28, 2008, after 5:00 pm at the funeral home and until time for the service on Friday. Interment will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by one son, Gary Turpin of Winchester, KY, three brothers, Willie Turpin of Eubank, Denney Turpin of Waynesburg and Bennie Turpin of Indianapolis, IN, two sisters, Cynthia Smith of Biloxi, MS and Thelma Hamilton of Lexington, KY one grandchild, B.J. Turpin of Pigeon Forge, TN, three step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren and special friends, Willard and Audrey Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Turpin, whom he married on November 27, 1958 and who died on November 5, 2007, his parents, one daughter, Margaret Christine Turpin and four sisters, Grace Rusk, Elsie Pettigo, Vernada Mosher and Vena Cox.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Sardis Christian Church with Bro. Lester Randolph and Bro. Greg Powell officiating.

Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery.

He was born in Shopville , Kentucky on November 28, 1941, son of the late Homer Lewis and Sabra Cundiff Miller. He was the head dairy manager at Kroger for 38 years, a farmer and loved horse riding and trading. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon , Kentucky .

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Brenda Dick Miller of Brodhead, whom he married on January 12, 1965, one son, Tony & (Darcy) Miller of Richmond, KY, four grandchildren, Savannah Paige Miller, Owen Chase Miller, Braeden Samuel Miller and a little girl who will be born in June, former daughter-in-law, Crystal Miller, mother-in-law, Freda Dick of Science Hill, one brother, Donald Miller of Rex, GA, five sisters, Maxine & (Eddie) Whitis of Acorn, KY, Geraldine Miller of Dallas, GA, Christine & (Eugene) Meece of West Somerset, KY, Norma Jean Jasper of Somerset and Linda & (Kenny) Spears of Lexington, KY, two sisters-in-law, Maxine Black of Science Hill and Bobbie & (Jerry) Casada of Louisville, aunt, Roberta Cundiff, several nieces, several nephews and a special ex-niece-in-law, who will mourn his passing.

He is survived by his former wife; Sue Nell Spencer Godsey, whom he married on December 3, 1966 in Attica, Indiana: one son; Alex (and Jocelyn) Godsey, Burnside, Kentucky: one daughter; Samantha Godsey, Andersonville, Tennessee: one brother; William (and Betty) Godsey, Blue ash, Ohio: one sister; Dorothy Casada, Sloans Valley Community.

He was preceded in death by his parents; One brother; Sam Wesley “Tudor” Godsey: three sisters; June Kidd, Doris Cundiff and Pauline Howard.

Mrs. Cundiff is survived by a son, David Cundiff of Somerset; two daughters, Rebecca (and Todd) Baker of London, KY and Bernita (and Greg) Sexton of Richmond, KY; a brother, Guy Sears of Georgia; a sister, Mary Ivey of Georgia; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and many close friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Holland Casper Cundiff, whom she married on January 24, 1962; a son, Robert Cundiff; a daughter, Denise Cundiff; five brothers, Robert “Bobby” Sears, Troye Sears, Herman Sears, Gerald Sears and Orval Sears; and three sisters, Dean Holt, Velvy Sears, and Iva Jones.

Visitation for Mrs. Cundiff will be Tuesday, September 1st after 6:00 pm at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Edna Bailey Dalton whom he married in September of 1945 in Somerset, KY; four brothers Ercell Dalton, William Beecher Dalton, Harold Lee Dalton, and Howard Dalton; and one sister, Shelia Dalton.

Funeral services for Mr. Leonard Dalton will be held on Friday, August 31, 2007 at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home at 2:00pm with Bro. J.S. New officiating. Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 38 Honor Guard. Internment will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 6:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Luther Paul Thompson, age 71 of Somerset, departed this life on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Thompson was born on September 14, 1940 in Pulaski County, KY to Ruby Owens Thompson and the late Marshall Thompson. He was a truck driver for the Ready Mix Concrete & Block Company and a member of the Estesburg Church of Christ. Mr. Thompson was an avid fox hunter.

He is survived by his mother, Ruby Owens Thompson of Eubank, KY; wife, Ruth Ella Mayfield Thompson, whom he married on February 6, 1960 in Somerset, KY; two sons, Randy Paul (and Lisa) Thompson of Science Hill, KY and Cary Wayne (and Paula) Thompson of Eubank, KY; two daughters, Sheila (and Dennis) Chaney of Eubank, KY and Cagelena VanHook of Brodhead, KY; six grandchildren, Geoffrey Paul Keith VanHook, Ethan Phillips, Samantha Van Hook, Nicholas (and Jessie) Cundiff, Josh Thompson, and Miranda Thompson; a great grandchild, Mason VanHook; and three sisters, Juanita (and Tex) Payne of West Chester, OH, Brenda Wilson of Eubank, KY, and Gayle (and Terry) Hood of Eubank, KY.

Along with his father Marshall Thompson, he was preceded in death by two infant siblings.

Visitation for Mr. Thompson will be Monday, June 25th at 6:00 pm at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, KY.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 26th at 2:00 pm at Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Gerald Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Church of Christ Cemetery in Willalla, KY.

Mary Francis "Frankie" Cundiff, of Garner School Road, died on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center.

A Pulaski Co. native, she was born on December 16th, 1923, the daughter of the late Ralph and Madge Smith. She held positions in Aid for Dependent Children; the Kentucky Highway Department, the Probation and Parole Board, and Oakwood Training Center. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Somerset.

Survivors include; her husband, Charles M. "Buster" Cundiff; three daughters, Mary Jo (and Saint John) Paul of Somerset, KY, Carol Sue (and Jim) Bridgeman of Somerset and Linda (and Don) Jones of Somerset; one sister, Emogene Phelps of Ferguson, KY; two brothers, Ralph (and Laverne) Smith of Madison, IN and Robert (and Judy) Smith, Ohio; five grandchildren, Charles "Chuck" Jones, John N. Paul, Gary Grant, Ricky Charles and Mary Beth Armstrong; seven great grandchildren, Bretton, Evan and Ethan Jones, the tripletts, Kannon Charles, Alexandra and Kasen Grant all of Somerset, Ky. and one step-grandchild, Matthew Cook.

She was preceded in death by, a son, Charles (Charlie) Cundiff; three infant children, Judy, Dianne, and Charles; two sisters, May Roberts and Shirley Snapp and one brother, Wilbur Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, November 26th, 2005 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Herrall, Bro. David Muse, and Rev. Blake Pinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25th, 2005 at the funeral home.

She was born November 30, 1924 in Wallins Creek, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Milton Farley and Nancy (York) Farley. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Michael L. (and Adiene) Wright , Ball Ground, GA. and David (and Terri) Wright, Science Hill: one daughter, Barbara A. Anderson, Somerset, KY.: two brothers, Milton Farley, Jr. Somerset, KY. and Darrell Farley, Largo, FL.: three sisters, Ruby Hall, Montgomery, AL., Mary Griffith , Naples FL. and Edith Vaught, Cleveland, TN.: nine grandchildren, Jessica Pfiel, Nicole Wright, Amanda and Megan Anderson, Kellie Atwood, Chris and Kristin Cain, Courtney and Deanna Wright: one great grandchild, Caleb Atwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, John D. Wright whom she married on February 14, 1944 in Somerset, KY.:one brother, James Farley: one sister, Kathy Cundiff: one grandchild, Caitlin Wright.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday December 24, 2001 at the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Carson Atwod officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Sunday December 23, 2001 at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Ollie P. Watkins, age 79, of Somerset, departed this life on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born on January 1, 1930 in London, KY, the daughter of the late Ed and Ollie Baldwin Gumm. She was a homemaker and a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church for over 40 years. Mrs. Watkins was a member of the Homemakers Club, Red Hatters, and the Somerset Women’s Club for over 50 years. She was active in various craft clubs and won many blue ribbons for her crafts.

She is survived by her husband, James Wilford Watkins, whom she married on February 20, 1949 in London, KY; a son, Terry (and Barbara) Watkins of Somerset; a daughter, Patty (and Richard) Cundiff of Somerset; two brothers, Kenneth (and Orvyline) Gumm of Somerset and Jack Gumm of London, KY; a sister, Joan (and Steve) House of London, KY; two grandchildren, Chad Brown and Brad Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ed and Ollie Gumm and two brothers, Gene and Clifton Gumm.

Visitation for Mrs. Watkins will be Sunday, January 4th from 2-5 pm at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Graveside service will be Monday, January 5th at 11:00 am at Lakeside Memorial Gardens with Bro. David Pendley officiating.
