Mrs. Bertie Cundiff Lester, age 88, of Somerset, formerly of the Bronston community, departed this life on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Sunrise Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Somerset, Kentucky on November 1, 1919 to the late Edward S. and Millie K. Bray Cundiff. She retired from the Palm Beach Company as a supervisor and seamstress. She also worked for Mill Outlet Fabrics. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Lester was fond of sewing, crocheting, crossword and picture puzzles but a good Christian novel was her greatest pleasure. She had grown close to God in the last few years and left this world surrounded by His peace and grace.
Surviving her is a son, James E. “Jim” (and Susan) Weddle of Somerset; a daughter, Joyce W. (and Bill) Bailey of W. Columbia, SC; two brothers, Tom E. (and Lucille) Cundiff of Somerset and Edward S. (and Ruby) Cundiff Jr. of Akron, OH; four grandchildren, Christopher S. Bailey, Kerry Lee (and Todd) Everett, Joy (and Lyndon) Turpin, and Jami (and J.C.) Cain; eight great grandchildren, Zack Turpin, Lucas Turpin, Morgan Roberts, Carly Cain, C.J. Bailey, Meredith Bailey, Matthew Bailey, and Lella Lee Everett; and several nieces and nephews, along with special Neighborhood Friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold G. Lester, whom she married on June 7, 1954 in Rossville, GA; a brother, Robert “Rob” Cundiff; and three sisters, May Cundiff Holsomback, Allene C. Cundiff, Elizabeth Cundiff Lester.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. J.S. New and Bro. David Muse officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 after 6:00 pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family of Mrs. Bertie Cundiff Lester requests that all donations be made to the Denham Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 400 Denham Street, Somerset, KY 42501. |
